What's PEFC

PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes) is an independent, non-profit, non-governmental organization which promotes sustainably managed forest through independent third party certification.

PEFC is the world’s largest certification programme for sustainable forest management, and accounts for two-thirds of total certified forest area globally. To date, there are 220 million hectares of forests in the world are certified by PEFC. PEFC provides an assurance mechanism for enterprises to be able to demonstrate to consumers that wood used in the products comes from sustainably managed forest.

PEFC is a global umbrella organization for the assessment of and mutual recognition of national forest certification schemes, which is supported by over 25 independent certification schemes and their stakeholders, includes environmental organizations, trade unions, timber traders as well as producers & retailers of paper and timber products.
